The Great Reno Balloon Race, Sept. 9-11 2011, is celebrating its 30th year of the race. The Sands Regency has been part of the Balloon Race since the beginning as a Founding Sponsor for the event. The Sands has also had numerous staff members contribute significant volunteer time to one of Reno’s largest special events. The Sands Regency Director of Players Club Services, Pilar Aldecoaotalora is entering her 14th year on the executive board of directors for the Balloon Race. She has spent seven years as Secretary, two as Vice-President and is currently in her second year as President of the Board of Directors.

“It has been an honor and privilege to have served on the GRBR Board of Trustees representing the Sands Regency”, said Pilar Aldecoaotalora. “Celebrating the 30th year of the Balloon Race, we invite everyone to come out, enjoy and support the continuance of this great community effort.”

This year’s event falls on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The GRBR Board of Trustees, together with Officials from the State of Nevada, the cities of Reno and Sparks, and Washoe County, invite northern Nevadans to honor the heroes and remember the lives lost on this 10th anniversary. The official ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m. before Mass Ascension at Rancho San Rafael Park. For early risers the music tribute will begin at 5:00 a.m. with accompanying patriotic music and commentary during the Glow Show and Dawn Patrol.
